A Model displays the world's first blue roses at a media preview in Tokyo Wednesday, June 30, 2004. The blue roses, that had been thought impossible to create for years, was developed
by Suntory and Australian bio venture FlorigenePty, Ltd., using biotechnology. Blue colour pigment extracted from blue flowers was added to roses by recombinant DNA techniques.

looks beautiful! so how much would one blue rose cost do you think?

I thought people poured money into biotech firms to cure aids or cancer or something. Well I guess the world needs blue roses too.

How long till we get a blue lotus?

We never had a Blue rose? That is news to me.

But why would we want a Blue rose anyway? To go with Blue chudithars? You get December flowers which are a kind of blue. So why spend thousands of dollars on DNA combo to create Blue rose? Weird world.

Cheers

Blue rose azhaga than irukku..But somehow I dont find the charm of nature in it..BTW I have a Orange Rose shrub in my home, way back in India. It was a gift from a friend and later I came to know tht Orange rose is mainly given as a token of friendship.

do you guys know the color significance of other roses ?

Elle Mopheus... ennale ippadi ellam pesa arambichutte.... :

1. Commit with red roses to signify love and respect.

2. Communicate joy with yellow roses.

3. Send a dozen white roses when you want to connote secrecy, innocence and/or purity.

4. Show appreciation or gratitude with pink roses.

5. Send light pink roses to say you understand, you're sympathetic or you're sorry if someone is ill, bereaved or disappointed.

6. Convey desire with coral and orange roses.

7. Give pale roses of any color to convey friendship.

8. Opt for rosebuds to recognize beauty, youth and innocence.

9. Announce a new engagement by wiring two roses together to create a single stem -and use it as decoration for an engagement party or send it to the couple.

Some Tips when you send roses:

* If the recipient doesn't know the significance of the roses' color, the sentiment expressed in an accompanying card will convey the color's meaning.

* If you remove the thorns before you give roses, it means you care.

* Leaves are a symbol of hope.

:00:

ppl the rose posted by Priyam is an artificially coloured rose.
as it was left to soak up blue dye ...just like they do for carnations, etc...

The reason why blue is so difficult to obtain in roses is due to the PH of the cell of the plant....it turns the blue to pink..

there has been many attempt at creating a "natural" blue rose...however all have only resulted in either pink or a mauvish lavender blue.

the pictures that silican put up ...are the first "real" blue roses
it will be far too difficult to obtain as deep a blue as say forget me nots.....Roses simply were not made to be blue :ahha:

let's applaud the scientist and stop moaning abt the colour

anyway....me figured me will have to spend my own money to get blue roses :sm12:
I doubt my dad will be willing to spend a fortune on getting me some blue roses :Ksp:

Yes Ferny ...you may indeed say that biotechnology could be used to find cures and generally improve human quality of life....
but already so much resources is being spent on that...
Humans are creative and require their ingenuity to be used in other fields too...other wise we would have no space travel nor underwater deep sea exploration

Human life is and shall always be at the forefront of our thoughts...but lets also explore knowledge for the sake of knowledge

silican...don't worry dude...whenever you need to send roses to Miss Sharapova  let us know...will give you great tips :ee:
till then ...the main rule to stick by ...is don't give roses to girls :ahha: stick to gerberas (they look like giant coloured daisies)

In one way, girls are like roses..Both can be seen and jollu'fied from distance. It could be dangerous getting closer. ;)

Blue,

As an off shoot to the theory of colors and genes. Is it possible to create a Blue man( or woman )? Wont it be nice to choose ones own color and change it whenever we want? May be some Bio Technology gurus should spend some of their time in this.

On another note our dear Sharapova has said time and again the she wants to be the same girl even after so much fame. So, silican has a fair chance of wooing her. Go for her dude. Send flowers and she will appreciate.

Cheers

Silican,
obvioulsy you have not heard of the thornless varieties now available
Roses are not dangerous :sm12:
women can be ...especially older ones with bricks in their handbags :sm12:

Anainar,
well if you eat tomatoes ...in humongous quantities for about say a year ...I can guarrantee that you will turn red :ee:
so I suppose if we make someone eat blueberries ...then they shall turn blue.
It would be possible to insert a gene into a human gamete cell for blue colour and the next generation may indeed be blue skined
only experiments on humans is forbiden especially such genetic manipulations...and they take too long to mature and reproduce...you can't map it like in plants.
would definitly be interesting
If Kannan was Blue ...why should it be impossible...or am I talking like a heretic :?

Was the Russian Phenomenon Miss Sharapova ....approachable to begin with? If so then certainly Silican stands as much chance as my next door neighbour :ee:
but I distinctly heard rumours of a special someone she thanked wholheartedly while rrefusing to name the person..... could that be Silican?

It is not rumour. I watched the match the following ceremony. She did thank some one and refused to name him. The giggle on her face when she said that would have made butterflies fly in the stomach of that person. And her father standing in the stands would have also had a heart attack.

It is such emotional nature which appealed to her fans rather than the ice cold actions of Roger. He did break down after winning and pumped fists once in a while but overall an ice maiden.

So, does Silican stand a chance? Unless of course he moves to Florida and follows her to every place like our movies and try his luck. Good luck Silican.   I would have done that had I been a bit younger. Now it is no fun.

It is an expression Vasan vaathiyar. Not the literal meaning.

Yep, he was given a cow as present last year and this year also he might get another cow this year.

Goks, that is the fun part of playing with thorns. I meant the roses. Why cant they do some genetic engineering and make roses without thorns? I can extrapolate it to many things but will get    from the fairer ones.

Roses have thorns...those thorns are it's protection! If there were no thorns...then that would make that rose perfect...but there's no such thing in this world as 100% pure perfect...you can get near perfect (99%)...ie: a rose with maybe one little thorn that isn't sharp! :sm30: :D

:P Silican different rose colours mean ->

http://www.post-a-rose.com/contents/images/rose_red.jpg Red:
No colour can say “I love you” better than this Valentine Favourite. It not only speaks of passion, but also stands for noble values such as respect and courage.

http://www.post-a-rose.com/contents/images/rose_pink.jpg Pink:
In general, symbolises grace and gentility, The pink carries that message of happiness. Deep pink says “thank you”. Light pink conveys admiration and sympathy.

http://www.post-a-rose.com/contents/images/rose_peach.jpg Peach:
Conveys sociability and friendship, modesty, appreciation, admiration and sympathy.

http://www.post-a-rose.com/contents/images/rose_golden_yellow.jpgYellow:
Expresses joy and gladness – the best gift for new mothers, newlyweds or graduates. They are also a subtle reminder for a busy husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend.

http://www.post-a-rose.com/contents/images/rose_white.jpg White:
Has several special meanings – “you’re heavenly”, reverence, humility, innocence and purity, “I’m worthy of you”, secrecy and silence. In rose history, white roses are just as colourful as red ones!

http://www.post-a-rose.com/contents/images/rose_orange.jpg Orange:
Denotes enthusiasm and desire. Perfect for letting people know that you want to get to know them better.

{From: Post a rose}

Silican did you say someone gave you orange roses...I guess they were trying to tell you that they wanted to know you better ;)

Silican,

You are better off. I know only RGB, and possibly a few otheres like Yellow and pink. Mauve, Peach, Lavendar are all like greek to me. On top of this there is logic behind the color of the rose and the message associated with it. I am telling you, this is all invented by the women's gang and thrust upon men.

I never knew that there was so much in the color of roses.

is it associated with roses only or even the color of the dresses? For e.g, if I get a yellow color dress from my wife, does it mean she is reminding me to get her a Silk saree?? Oh Man!! This world is complex!! Why cant all these be reminded, told, communicated in words? Why roses, colors and associated meanings?

Cheers
