Hi

My cousin brother got good score in recent +2 exam and also in Entrance exam conducted by Anna University. He has confusion in choosing courses in B.E. Anyone can give some direction like which BE category will be scoopful in future, etc.
How about the following courses ? is there any scope for the foloowing

Bio-Medical Engineering - B.E

Aeronautical Engineering - B.E

Electronics And Communication Engineering - B.E

or suggest someother usefull courses which will have good future.

Totally depends on what he wants to do.. Computer Science (comes under engg at Anna) is cool. ECE is good.

No Aero or BioMed... if he is thinking of working in India. Not with a BE.. Mechanical & Chemical are still good.. :b:

Most of these subjects have good future prospects. Ask him what he likes best, and try it...

Good luck.. :b:

Primarily boils down to what he wants to do.. then it will be good idea to choose from the institutions...

Good luck to all the aspirants this year :)

Vasan and ashok

Thanks for your suggestion. He would like to join Computer Sc. Suppose if he doesn’t get computer Sc. means, he need to choose some other courses. For that need suggestion. In future he would like to work in abroad like USA.

Are there still chances for B.E computer science candidates in USA? What else has good scope in USA?

If he is not planning to stop with BE, and may be would like to try other countries too for higher studies and jobs, the choices are nearly endless. Any of the fields would be ok, including BioMed.

Ask him to pay attention in his programming classes (its worth your while to know programming very well whatever you do), math (total must), and if he is choosing Mech/other fields, few other classes like instrumentation/electronics...

Computer science will always be there. Opportunities for BioMedEngg, especially with a MS from US, is growing and will continue to grow for next 10 years or so..... Electronics and Communication too..

Just so long as he gets a good GPA, and confident and likes the subject, he should be fine..

Printing/Automobile/textiles... rr.. too narrow scope. Other main fields are good..

Paul,

Just tell him most fields are fine, and ask him to pick what he likes to do best. Or if he has a few choices, ask him to mail it back, so we can try help him out better...

Good luck :b:

Yeah Paul,
நெனச்சது கெடைக்கலைன ்னா கெடச்சத படிக்கணும் . ( என் கதை வேற :ahha: )
A couple of times I had thought earlier, "If I had got a CS seat..." But now I find that many of my CS friends are doing lesser programming that I do.:) Again choosing college shouldnt be an issue. Anna or the top Govt Engg colleges or REC/PSG. All other self financing colleges come under the same tier no matter how much famous they are.

paul.. first of all congrats to ur cousin on scoring good marks
you would have known him better, so have u tried to figure out
any of his inborn talents or his field of interests...

take ur decision based on his interests...
if his first choice was cs then let me give u a kind piece of advice..
let him choose IT rather than CS...
coz it was my personal experience..
and also scope is little higher for IT... than CS.

u can see tis very clearly in chennai and b'lore..(two places being the IT gateway for india)

so better ask his opinion.. if he stick on to CS try to convince him to choose IT..
cos he gains more and additionla knowlege in IT..

and one more thing.. if ur cousin was in chennai and wish to start his professional studies in chennai itself .. then he can take my help in gaining exposure to IT and other Engg. courses .

and also my IT study materials are there to help him(if at all he choose IT)
my doors are open..

Primarily it all depends upon the area of interest and what he wants to do after BE. If he does'nt want to pursue any higher studies...Comp Sci and Mechanical are good.

The scope for textiles and aeronautics is on the demanding side in india....Automobiles.....peopl e are rushing to india with a PG in automotive specialities....so the oppurtunity is less.....

Second money:
There are people who don't run behind money and they want to study their field on interest....
If he want a good money IT is the best field...BE, in IT, comp sci, Mechanical (CAE specialisation are good.........don't know how good the trend will be....)

Final Decision:
Even i was in a dilemma which course to select.....My dad said....Its your course, so the final decision rests on you

A final word:
Whatever course u select unless u master and specialise in a particular field or perform well in the course....Scope of the course is limited......

The succes rests only on the individual....with some god's grace and luck

my kind suggestion is whatever be the course. either electronics or communication. Please ask him to study with passion in that field not with USA in mind. I feel indian engineering is still good to compete in world only thing is the confidence and interest towards field instead of money oriented is lacking behind in indian engineering.

Thanks for ur suggestion.Yes u r correct. Not only engineering all the indian degrees are good enough to compete with other people.
