Veteran director Balu Mahendra, who is known for his meaningful and sensitive movies in a career spanning over 25 years, is making a comeback with Athu Oru Kanaa Kaalam, a movie with stars Dhanush in the lead role.

After his Julie Ganapathy about a couple of years ago, Balu Mahendra went into hibernation and was also afflicted with some physical problems.

And hence Athu Oru Kanaa Kaalam has more importance than it would in the normal scheme of things.

The film is also Dhanush's ray of hope as he is going through a career horror.

Balu Mahendra says Athu Oru Kanaa Kaalam is a youthful movie with lot of emotions.

The film will have lot of youthful exuberance, he says.

And he cannot also stop talking about Dhanush's ability and skills.

"Dhanush is an extraordinary actor and has given his best for the movie. I hope it would be a movie that would take him to a different league."

Unlike other directors who have tried to portray Dhanush as a action hero, I have ensured that in Adhu Oru Kana Kalam, Dhanush brings forth his acting skills to the fore, he says

It is a love story of a middle class youth with a poor girl. While Dhanush has given his best, actress Priya Mani has not let herself for behind. Apart from glamour, she has also come up with a compact performance.

Her performance would certainly win the appreciation of the audience, the director who has way of extracting great work from his actresses says.

Balu Mahendra has joined hands with Ilayaraja once again for the movie. The duo has given some of Tamil film's most memorable melodies before. The audio of the film has been doing good business.

The movie also stars Tejashree in an important role.

On his role, Dhanush says "it would be a movie to remember in my career. Working under such a great moviemaker was a great learning experience. I learnt not just acting but nuances of film making while working with him".

The movie has been completed and awaits release this July.
