This is one term I get to see real frequent these days on the IT front. Biggies like Yahoo and Microsoft seemed to implement this in their upcoming mail betas.

Roundcube (http://www.roundcube.net/) is another related project (is this something like phpBB  'Deploy on your own mail server' using a MySQL in the back end )

What does AJAX actually  what difference does it actually make in client and server scripting  Has anyone used this

From the wikipedia article on AJAX: “Any response to a user action that doesn’t require a trip back to the server"

This kind of contradicts the "runat=server" in .NET right

(what are you saying that ajax works like the spinal pathways --ie the reflex arc...which doesn't require any input from the CNS :? )

pretty interesting what it can do.... Supposed to be next gen platform for web development...

I mentioned this site (http://www.start.com) in another thread... this was done using AJAX... interesting how 2 hot technologies (RSS and Ajax) are used....

This is not a .Net thingy... rather an open technology running on JavaScript...

info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_%28programming%29)

How did I miss this? :-\ Anyway, Ajax is the way to go! Kickass technology. Never really been a fan of Javascript (since I didn't find the need to use it) but the XMLHttpRequest object is the "core" behind Ajax. Pages don't need to be refreshed in order to have their contents changed. Very nifty...web interaction at a new level.

If anyone wants to have a "working" example of what Ajax is all about check this out (http://dhtmlnirvana.com/ajax/ajax_tutorial/#)!

I was working on some Perl implementations with CGI::AJAX earlier this year.
The best part of AJAX is yet to come. Name search or autocomplete names could be even more powerful when the xml server call is effectively used.
