Are we ppl so bad in appreciating  ....Y so less songs about appreciation :(

Indians and tamils have a hard time saying thank you. I didn't grow up saying thank you to mom and dad. In fact, I don't quite believe my mom said thank you her mom until now. Not in explicit verbal terms. Pattams, romba thanks! is more common than mikka nanRi paattaampUchi.. (which is to say, thamizh thank you-s are not all that common).

Mom gives me strange looks these days when I say thank you for the b'day card or coffee and so on. :) Somethinkg like: 'Dude, whats up with the thankyous? :Ksp:" sorta look..

Same way for saying sorry or I love you.. (mom will commit me to an institution for saying words like love you mom.. :P :P)..

It does not mean we don't reciprocate thank you or sorry or love through other means. We do, of course. Just not using words. Thats all.

Thats perhaps one reason why such songs are non-existent in tamil or other indian languages. There are plenty of songs praising mom, what good families are about, and what family ties mean. Praising an affectionate annan (hinit..hint.. :P :P), and lovely thangachi.. :P :P all that.. but, no direct song saying thank you.. :D (Funny that goes for friendships as well.. Sorry sonnaa, 'its okay' is not what we are conditioned to say, but..'achoo.. enna periya periyaa vaarththaiyellaam sollureenga' or thank you sonna, 'friends-kkullla ethukku thank you ellaam'.. :P :P).. just the cultural differences I guess.. :D

Now, those in the periphery.. straddling two cultures, showering abundant thank you and sorry, and what not at work, have to tune down to 'taking' things for granted at home.. (Trust me, if I say, I love you on the phone every indian ear in my office will suddenly hear it, and but if Ben screams I love you, or hi honey.. no one will take a second notice.. :D :D).. Tough life for those in-betweeners.. :)

Now I will get over the indian habit, and will say this much:

Sorry for the long note, Pattampoochi.. :sm03:
Thank you so much for your patience. :)

Hello my name is Jeyarani. I'm from Canada. Its hard to get to your radio station here. Even though I log in everyday, I'm unable to hear any songs. What is the best way to get into your site? :sm13:
