Thought of giving it a seperate thread to discuss about good IM clients for Linux. As a starting point, here is a post from Shakti in RT:

Nana one more IM client called mercury which works for MSN is coming up with webcam and voice support for linux. I installed its good; but slow since it is java based.......have to do some tweeks for my webcam to work..

So far I have'nt used voice/webcam for Linux (well even in Windows) mostly restricted to text IM and file transfers. Will soon use though.

One client I love to use for the purpose is Gaim. Pretty decent, includes native smilies (ofcourse I guess you can import your own smiley pack. donno how, but looks like it can be done).

But one problem with Gaim is the file transfer support. I dont remember seeing 2.0 beta 1 supporting Yahoo's file transfer protocol. MSN seemed to work without any problems.

Will leave it you people now for further discussion :ee:

As of 2005-11-10 08:46, this project is no longer under active development.
