I will if I want to......I don't need to write in Tamil just to prove my love of the language....I know that, and I need not prove it to anybody else...

shidinesh,

If you don't like any creative works. Just read and leave and I already told to 6Face about this and I don't want him to lock the topics again.

Further more, If you don't believe in certain things, you can create your own header and do whatever you like, I don't even care what you do. Instead starting nowhere and ending nowhere, make some senses to your thoughts if you honestly believe.

This is my polite way of telling certain aspects for Good. If you still want to do it, do it, I know my facts and I hope you know too.

I'm not gonna stop for what you have in mind, yet I want to be polite.

dinesh

what are you on about now? where did I say I didn't like creative works? Ofcourse this is an excellent effect on your behalf. I just wanted to add more clarification to the word 'athibagavan'.....where did you get the idea I was mocking you?
I don't believe in certain things....true...but I believe in thirukkural....so no way I'm gonna contradict you.
I don't certainly want you to stop. You are a better contributor than me. And, you yourself have told me that I have no knowledge, so a guy like me is a 'kaal thoosu' for you......

Anyway..sorry dude...I wasn't meaning to offend you or anything...but if you want to take it that way, I'm fine with it.....

As for you telling arumugam....frankly, I don't care.

I know the reason ;). Yet.

There is no need to post a message sayin I don't want to write in tamizh for the sake you asked thats what put me in a reply mode, you know the fact how you could have ended the replies.

Appuram regarding 'kaal thoosu' matter, I don't know what you are talking, but if you took that way from any of my postings, Naan yaarium inga appadi ninakavillai.

Just forward the topic that made you think that way, will ask the moderators to remove it.I apologize for too specific to give that feel in you. If there was mis communication or mis understanding I can explain what i meant.

I believe in a strong community and I wanted to stay commited that way.

Earlier I left 'cause some words deeply hurted that feel yet even now people are joking at that nature, yet I'm clearly honest and taking it as fun and playing around.

aside from your fights,...

can someone tell me...please...

does this kural mean adhi bagavan as in thiruvalluvar's mom and dad!

that sounds silly to me !

I think thiruvalluvar would have thanked his mom and dad in

the preface/acknowledgements section but not in the actual

thirukkural itself!!

please someone clarify !

Vennai,

There is one more fight going on it was really written by one pulavar just thiruvalluvar or set of pullavars.

If you believe in spirituality then its meant for GOD.

If you don't its your amma appa.

Either way he says there is a starting point for the world you are living. avlothan.

There is one argument like that. But, the main view point by many 'urai aasiriyargal' is that aathibagavan is god.

but it is true though that valluvar's parents are called aathi, bagavan

its really interesting ... i have never heard of "aathibagawan" being interpreted this way!

But i have another insight into something that seems to evolve from this "aathi bagawan".

I have heard some of my friends (who are girls) argue asking "why should girls change their initials, or surnames after marriage to that of the husband's?" ... but by looking at this "aathi bagawan" as referring to mother-father ... then may be, the concept of "wife's name followed by husband's name" eventually took shape and from that point of view it is giving more respect to the females/girls in the order of looking.

makkalley ... dont thiti-fy me if i am letting my imagination run too much ... but am just writing what struck me immediately after reading this "ammai-appan" naming order.

Neways ... what do you guys think of this ? :ahha:

vennai1
10-14-2003, 09:32 PM
saraku,

these days many girls keep their old surname even after marriage..

so i dont think they need to have their husband's name next to them... :nono:

it is just their wish !

I agree.. But Sri writes (quite well, I might add).. and most others contribute in English... so I think we are getting some sort of understanding of each kural being discussed... :)

Of course, if Sri wants, as he often does, he will add other comments as well..

in my view vennai,
i think thiruvalluvar sollaraar - MATHAA, PITHAA, GURU, DEIVAM

that is the first god for a person is his mother and father. we come from them.

not that he thanked his parents.

he just denotes their names, but he means for every person their parents are their first god. :Ksp:

well..sandhiya you are taking it in the philosophical perspective.

that is not what i meant. :nono:

any great creator never exposes personal details in his work. :nono: :b:

So I dont cling to the fact that mr.valluvar would have sneaked
in his own father and mother's name in the first kural. :nono: :b:

Note guys, except in poems that clearly says (like in puranaanuru, historical writing like manimegalai, silapathigaaram), the common rule is not to add your personal identity in your work. Valluvar did not include his father or mothers name in the kural.

Matha-pitha-guru-deivam endru ellam valluvar koora villai. Karanam, indha mozhi valakku is very recent. He is more likely taking about God-who-is-forever- aadhi-bhavan... aadhi means time immemorial and bhavan is simply God. (Note, it is also an asexual name for God, not a He nor a She.. God is beyond all that distinction in this usage..)

The God from time immeorial is the foundation of this universe, like the alphabets are the basis of a language..

The beauty in this kural lies in the fact that as the alphabets form the basis of a language, also the language forms the basis of this book (note this is the first kural!!). meaning God is at the root of this effort and invoking him make this a good prayer...

cool stuff..
