MOVIE INFO
Adaikalam’ is yet another Tamil film which seeks to realistically tackle a simple theme.

Director Bhuvanaraja deserves praise for his serious and mature approach in interpreting a tale of human relations.

This

is a welcome change from the rash of formula films coming out of the Tamil film factory of late.

‘Adaikalam’ also marks a comeback for versatile actor Prashanth. If the film rises to great heights, a great deal of credit goes to Prashanth who has got under the skin of his character with admirable poise.

The sensitive portrayal of a brother and a son can be counted as one of his finest performances till date.

Anbu (Prashanth) adores his sister Tamikzh (Uma). But they are living away from their parents who are estranged. Their only source of solace is uncle Somasundaram (Radha Ravi) who takes care of them.

The father (Thiagarajan) returns to the village years later. But he is unwelcome. And nobody is ready to buy his story about the separation from his wife.

The rest of the film explains why the husband and wife went their separate ways.

Prasanth walks away with the acting honours. Uma is close behind with a competent performance. Thiagarajan is masterly as the unfortunate father who is forced to live away from his children. Saranya is good as the estranged wife.

Sabesh Murali’s music is excellent. The songs go well with the mood of the film.

‘Adaikalam’ appeals to you because it is a simple theme interpreted in a straightforward manner without any resort to gimmicks.

Director Bhuvanaraja shows that what matters in the ultimate **** is sincerity of approach and imaginative interpretation. He has come up trumps with a good film in ‘Adaikalam’.
