View Full Version : Curry(கூட்டு, பொரியல்) : Brinjal Curry(எண்ணை கத்திரிகாய ்)

Thought might share it with u all..

ENNAI KATHTHARIKAI CURRY
===================

Ground nuts - 2 TableSpoon
Kuskus - 1 Spoon
Methi seeds(Fenugreek) - 1/2 Spoon
White sesame seeds - 1 Spoon
Cummin Seeds - 3/4 Spoon
Small onions (sambar onions) - 15 Nos
Tomato Chopped - 1 1/2 Cup
Garlic flakes -6 Nos
Coriander powder -1 1/2 Spoon
Chilli powder -1 TableSpoon
Turmeric powder -1Spoon
Kaththarikai [Brinjal] -8 to 10 Nos[small size],
Gingelly oil - 4 TableSpoon
Mustard seeds -1 Spoon
Peppercorns -1 Spoon
Green chillies -5 Nos[slit them lengthwise]
Tamarind - A lime size
Enough salt to taste.

(1)Dry roast groundnuts,cummin seeds,kuskus, sesame seeds, fenugreeks seeds to a golden brown colour and grind them with onions, tomatoes and garlic without adding water.

(2)Add turmeric powder,chilli powder, and the coriander powder and mix well. Cut each brinjal in to 8 pieces lengthwise, add enough salt and the mixed masala to this,mix well and keep them covered for 1/2 hour.

(3)Heat the oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds. When it splutters, add the green chillies and the peppercorns and fry for two minutes.

(4)Now add the brinjal with masasla and cook on a medium fire until the oil comes on the top.

(5)Extract a thick juice from the tamarind and add to the brinjal.When all the water is absorbed and the oil floats on the top,put off the fire.The gravy must be thick.

I changed the title.. Tamil'la title adika ellam enakkutheriyaathu.. So changed the title in english itself - Brinjal curry. poothuma..

Ippadi yellam tempt pannadhinge... Erkanave, veliyila saapittu, vittula yellathaiyum 'burn' panni, odikittu irukku vazhkai.... Appuram, unga oorla irundhu enga oorukku thaniya oru Special UPS service arambikkavendi varum..

Thanks, though! Kandippa unga samaiyal kurippai try pannuven. I will post the "Vasan Review" also !! But I love brinjal in any form (including my own 'blackened curry' (i mean the burned up version).. so I am sure this recipe will get an 'Enthusiastic Two Thumbs Up'....

Anyway, me too love kathirikkai. We make vathal kuzhambu with small small brinjals, just sliced along the length,stuffed with masala and fried. Waaaah! I dont get it at all these days after my mom passed away :cry: I will also try எண்ணை kathirikkai and see.

Pavama iruku.. neenga sonathai paatha... dont worry, sure seekarum oru poonu vanthu ungalukkum manaka manaka samaichu pooduvaa... :)
athu varaikum konjam neenga kashtam pada vaendiyathu thaan..

I scaled down everything so that it suits to 4 brinjals.. so i made with 2 teaspoons of oil.. but i didnt get the oil on top... enga thappu panni erupen.... :Ksp: :Ksp:

Appuram water engayumae add panna vendammnu sonningaa, the gravy was so thick .. appadi than erukanumaaa..... :think:

mixie - la evaloo neram araikanum sollaliyaaa...... :nono: :nono:

But finally everthing came out well. danks sword .. cha ... sh ..chaa...shy...

anyway, about the grinding of the ingredients.. mixie'la u should add nowater at all, because, onion, tomatoes is there, antha consistencyla eruntha poothum.. it should be solid too, appo thaan brinjal sides'a vaika correcta erukum..smooth'a varavaraikum mixie'la grind pannunga.. u dont want half garlic or groundnut to come in ur mouth when eating it ;)

Yes gravy will be thick only.. this is just a side dish, romba ethai pudichu erukaravanga, like me, satham'ooda saethu sapiduvoom.. ellaina thotuka thaan ithu..

Correct math wont work in cooking madhu :).. it depends on how ur frying it.. high flame, medium, low etc.. may be next time try 3.. plus... when u are frying it.. keep it i medium heat...

Shy ellam unga munnadi thaan koocham. Vaal( sword, not anumar vaal ) eduthaanganna, Veecharuval Vellayamma theriyuma??
