Info..., which may surprise you all.

Windows crashes automatically if you don't switch off the machine for 49.7
Days. Microsoft accepts this.

Do you know why? If not read this

In Windows the Virtual Machine Manager (here after referred as VMM) is
responsible for creation, execution, monitoring and termination of virtual
machines. This VMM, which is a 32 bit, protected mode operating system,
provides a number of system services at chip level of programming. One of
these services is "Get_System_Time". This particular service loads the
EAX register with the time in milliseconds since Windows started. This
service is accurate to 1 ms. EAX is a 32 bit register. So the maximum number
of milliseconds it can hold is (2^32)-1 = 4294967295 milliseconds

= 4294967.295 seconds
= 71582.79 minutes
= 1193 hours
= 49.7 days

So after 49.7 days the EAX resets to zero. Most of the Drivers use this Time
Service to keep track of the Time out of various services they provide. So
after 49.7 days the drives cannot use the get_System_Time function of VMM
and they crash.

Yeah....I thought that too.....lots of webservers now use NT Server or MS IIS......with this prob they can't run the webservers correctly.....so it's not truew

I am not a great MS fan. It is true what king says but i cant think of any other OS that can match the ease of use and the array of applications that windows has and this make it best for a SOHO and non-dev user.

MS itself advertises that WIn2003 server is almost as good as "Unix server" which means that they accept that unix based systems are better in terms of server ans dev-consoles

yeah there are lots of NT/2000 servers that run 24/7 without crashing. i'm not sure if MS is going towards right direction, based on this article. happy reading :D

Sathy,
24/7 is too good brand for MS. Actually Linux servers has less downtime that that of windows over a year.

yeah i agree with u king, you can't compare linux servers with windows. when you program under windows even a small memory leak/overrun can bring down 24/7 system immediately.
