1 Banana flower
2 big onions
1-1/2 tsp lahsun (Garlic) paste
½ cup Chavli (Black eyed beans)
2 tsp red chilly powder
¼ tsp Garam masala powder
1 tsp gur (Jaggery)
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp haldi(turmeric powder)
1 tbsp fresh grated coconut
2 tbsp oil

¼ tsp rye (mustard seeds)
A pinch of Hing (asafoetida)


Remove the external cover of the banana flower.
Remove and clean individually each bud inside by plucking off the yellow and transparent part of the bud.
Chop the inner tender part to small cubical pieces.
Soak this chopped vegetable overnight in water.
Soak the Chavli overnight.
Wash the chopped vegetable clean before cooking.
Mix together chavli and the vegetable and cook them in a steaming utensil or a pressure cooker.
Finely chop onions.
Heat oil in a utensil and add rye (mustard seeds).
On crackling of mustard seeds add the lahsun (garlic) paste.
Add chopped onion and saute till soft and transparent.
Stir in haldi (turmeric powder), red chilly powder, garam masala salt and gur (jaggery) and sauté a little more.
Add boiled vegetable and chavali and blend the ingredients well. Allow it to cook for few minutes.
Finally add coriander and grated coconut, cook for a couple of minutes till the vegetable is cooked dry.
Garnish with fresh grated coconut.
Try this out, this goes well with rice.
