View Full Version : Curry(கூட்டு, பொரியல்):Spicy Sour Brinjal Curry

Assured for Trying - நீங்கள் இதை முயற்சி செய்யலாம்.

small eggplants - 8-10
turmeric powder -1 tsp
oil - 4 tbsp
Medium-size onion, peeled and grated - 1
sesame seeds, roasted -2 tbsp
ginger, roughly chopped - 1"
roasted peanuts - 1/2 cup
garlic - 6-8 cloves
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
curry leaves - a few (8-10)
coriander seeds, roasted - 1 tbsp
tamarind pulp - 2 tbsp
cumin seeds, roasted - 1 tbsp
dried red chillies - 2
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
water - 1 1/2 cup

(1) Wash, wipe, slit eggplant lengthwise without cutting it into two.
(2) Deep-fry in hot oil for two minutes, remove on a paper towel and keep aside.
(3) Make paste of sesame, peanuts, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, ginger and garlic cloves.
(4) Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Let it crackle and add curry leaves. Add onion and fry until onion is light brown, stirring continuously.
(5) Add turmeric powder and mix well. Add ground paste and cook for three minutes, stirring constantly.
(6) Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes.
(7) Add tamarind pulp, fried eggplants and salt and cook on low heat for 8-10 minutes.

Shy, i tried it... very tasty anna chinna pbm..
Brinjal sariya vehala.. its not soft..

Just tell me what to do??? I deep fried it for 3 mins and then cooked it with gravy for 20 mins..

anitam, puriyalai.. u mean even after cooking it in gravy for 20 mins vaegalaiyaa :00:

Try these 2

(1) Fry in low heat for more than 3 mins, i mean like 5-7 mins :) outside karuka kuudathu.. so keep turning thou okvaa.. then as usual masala poottu cook pannunga...

(2) Ellaina if u are comfortable.. microwave container'la oil pootu.. can fry brinjal...but be very careful okvaa.. by doing this.. deep fry aagathu.. but fry and as well half cookeda irukkum appuram as usual masala'lai sekalaam to completely cook :)

BTW entha brinjal use panreenga, i mean namba oorla kadaikura small ones thaanae.. ellai that long onesa :think:

i used the one from Indian stores here in US... i think May be the problem is with the brinjal..

Anyway thanks a lot for explaining this.. i will try again and let u know.. BTW the gravy was excellent.
