Dear Geetham Radio tech staff....

I have one suggestion... why can't u guys stream at 128 kbps bitrate? 128 kbps is 16 KBps (much less than the trasnfer rate at which movies are leached from geetham server; in fact i was downloading Jai at around 120-150 KBps not kbps yesterday!!!) which is normal download speed for most people.... so why cant u stream at such a rate? if u think it is too high a rate... u mite want to stream as wma @ 64 kbps which is pretty much similar quality and will use up only half the bandwidth... this suggestion is only to improve the quality and have more ppl hooked on to geetham radio... pls don take it in any other sense... after all u guys wud know the tech stuff better... and also becos i feel 24 kbps @ 22 kHz is too low for new songs which require some amount of high fidelity... such quality is probly ok for old and middle songs but not for modern songs which need at least 96 kbps (44 kHz) for good quality reproduction... pls tell me whether my suggestion can be implemented...

Thanks...

Cashew Nut :ee: :ee: :ee: ,
I know someone will definetly ask this.. Nee ketutae :b: This is only Radio BroadCast Testing. :D Once we come in as full fledged Radio Station . Bit rate would defintly be increased. Not sure whether it would be 128 kbps but definetly more than 64 kbps..

Sabeshan,

Fidelity is heavily compromised in computer speakers. Even if they transmit with a sampling rate of 44khz covering 20 Khz audible range, your computer speaker will choke or creek beyong 9-10 khz, unless you have some real quality speakers. When I heard the song Konjam Nilavu in my floor standing speakers here, I distinctly heard notes that I have not heard before, though I had good quality speakers in India. So, unless you listen to the transmitted audio in a quality speakers capable of good frequency range, you wont miss anything. Most of the computer speakers start at 70-80 hz and go up to 9-10 kHz beyond which they just make noise rather than play music.

This is not to say that 64 bit or 128 bit audio does not make any difference. After initiated into this 128 bit thing by Madhu, checked the Real site to know what this is about. I listened and it did make a difference in the voice even on my computer speaker. So, hopefully we should get better audio. I am also going to try connecting it to my A/V reciever to see if the high resolution audio makes any big difference.

Cheers.
