Scones
(Preparation time less than 30 mins
Cooking time 10 to 30 mins)
Ingredients
225g self-raising flour (use normal flour and baking powder if no self-raising)
pinch of salt
55g butter
25g sugar
150ml milk
Method
1. Heat the oven to 220C.
2. Mix together the flour and salt and rub in the butter.
3. Stir in the sugar and then the milk to get a soft dough.
4. knead very lightly. roll out he dough gently into a 2cm thick sheet. cut it into small triangles (or if you have a round cutter use it)
5. Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk. Bake for 12-15 minutes until well risen and golden.
serve with butter or jam or cream
if you like sultanas add them to the dough
savoury scones
same recipe as above, but do not use sugar
you may even sprinkle chees or chopped greens (I like to sprinkle curry leaves)
