Default Smoking to be banned in movies-Are we becoming Dictatorial?

    Check this out..
Cigratte smoking to be banned in movies

Based on some WHO document that has correlated movies and smoking, Indian Health Ministry has banned smoking on the screen. Not even packets of cigrattes can be shown in a movie. What kind of non-sense is this? Is this the way to avoid smoking? Ridiculuos law! And ridiculous solution.

Instead of attending more pressing issues of people, the govt is hell bent on creating ruckus, making people forget real issues.

this law applies to foriegn films it seems.. then there will by statutory warning running like subtitles
this is stupidity and such crazy laws are mainly for publicitiy.
how about better AIDS prevention program and reduction in poverty, these are issues they don't seem to fiddle with much in public

If they think movies are going to have such a impact on the people... then they should also do these laws:

    - No hero should be shown on hte screen killing people or taking law into their hands

    - heros should not be shown as vetti loafers

    more like this to come

see everybody is talking about this and thats the sole reason this has been brought up. Banning Cigarette smoking in a public place was a good idea, not on movies. What will happen to the Foreign movies. Invariably all Bond's heroines smoke will it be censored.

    This is a crazy decision

    Coolian,

    The notification is issued by the Health Ministry. Katz is right on dot. அப்பனைப்போ ல பிள்ளை. தும்பை விட்டு வாலை புடிக்கரது ல கில்லாடி அவங்க குடும்பமே.

Atrocious really. Instead of handling Primary Healtcare diligently, he is hell bent on issuing notices to filmdom on not showing smoking.

    Cheers

In fact this minister even wrote a letter to Rajini and thanking him for not having a smoking scene in his latest movie chandramukhi.......

and he has also warned Captain if he has any smoking scenes in his film......Read in kumudam a month b4.

To Honourable Health minister Maruthuvar LoveBell (athangaaa Dr. Anbhumani)

I was one of the happiest person, when BJP govt, imposed a ban on smoking in public places. But due to the corruption and weakness of local bodies and the government. The ban was not succesful...

    FYI:
Passive smokers are the ones who get affected badly and the effort should be taken to rescue passive smokers from this situation.....

Instead you are diverting the resources, media, and public attention towards heroes in the movie....The basic point that you have said that public are copy cats of heroes depicts the sheer ignorance of a health minister...You have failed to understand the requirements of a common man....

Are you taking Vengeance against the heroes....

There are so many things shown in the movie and a large number of public see the movie as entertainment rather than being one of the characters in it....which was used to be the case in Sivaji -MGR period...This is due to high literacy.....

If you are seriuos abt the issue...
    Follow this advice:
    Improve literacy in the country
Improve basic sanitation , GH facilities
Increase the fine amount for smoking in public places.....in fact they must do some charity work....
I heard that there is a smoking zone in Parliament....Could you impose the rule.....there??????

Today’s order also cracks down on ‘‘surrogate advertising’’ — defined as all kind of indirect references to a tobacco brand name. ‘‘Nobody can constitute awards in the name of cigrette brands, even the cigrette brands appearing on Formula 1 cars will have to be removed,’’ said Thyagaragan.
this is the most stupidest thing i've seen how long will it take a child to know about Wills and Gold Flake from the theruvora potti kadai. except for a ban on smoking in public, i dont see anything else worthy enough.

With these stringent rules, India becomes the first country to ban smoking on screen.

there are so many bad things shown on screen. the latest one being a cheap depiction of s**. that's a more serious issue than just showing cigs. and what's the point in blurring, how long is it going to take for people to understand what they are doing

All this is a political stunt and nothing less
