I fixed this problem yesterday on a Win XP Home system.

    Try this:
    Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages Tab>

Select 'Install files for complex scripts...' install (would fill 230 MB ), then restart and try it.

That fixed the very same problem for me, i think it should be the same problem at your end too I guess

Except for character encoding change to UTF-8, I haven't made any change in my Firefox settings.

    cools, Teacher,

If you have XP or Win 2003 goto Regional and Language Settings in the Control Panel. In the Languages tab, you will have an option like 'Install files for East Asian Languages' (this is a 230 MB installation). Apart from this I just changed character encoding to UTF-8 in Firefox. You don't need any other changes. If you restart Windows and try after the 230MB install, you should be fine.

Last post I was'nt what all actually fixed the problem (I installed a few TSC and TAB fonts). This time I'm pretty sure the above procedure should fix it.

If you are on a Win 2k, I think you should select the Indic fonts in the Regional and Language settings.
