Help with Sarees

Anbu Thozhiyare,
I need help in selecting a saree. No, not yet This is for my paati for her 50th wedding anniversary. She is in her late 60s and I am at a loss here not knowing what type of saree to choose for an elderly woman (as if I am good in finding one for a younger woman)

Any pointers/directions will be very helpful and highly appreciated.

Old women usually prefer light colours

Second in TN pattis prefer color in this order:
Yellow, blue,grey, green,brown

Ask u r patti she will be having atleast 10 different sarees with yellow colour with different designs....


Designs should be kept so small...

These are some tips i use when i select a saree for my Patti...

naan engada appachi-gu... ippadi thahn vendi kuddukkiren-nan.. and she likes it... better then the ones.. thats the tradional fashion and design..

but taste might be differ

Not so gaudy saree with so much zari like viji showed.....
Elegant,Light colors & if she is fair even maroon,blue,green goes well....

my paat's normally prefer the simplest material with much less work...

and ofcourse she do wear that pattu saree,but the jari will be very thin.

how bout cotton sarees? ... not the cheap ones of course ... my periaamma(she is a patti herself) wears those... even pattu sari ok but not with lots of jarigai n stuff like the others mentioned

even those softer type sarees r good there r heaps now.. doesnt look too modern n very comfortable to be worn by elderly women

usually, paatis like cotton sarees. cotton sareeslayae azagha jari vachu irukkum.

and go for dark colours.

Thanks lovely people for your tips and suggestions. 2 days on the net and I already have searched a dozen websites,a few hundred sarees and almost a hundred good looking models

Most T Nagar saree websites, (Pothys, Kumarans, Nalli, Chennai, RMKV) dont have a good collection online/have online shopping. Chennaibazaar and a few other saree sites like tulsi, have some nice sarees but way too costly. Still searching....
